The Race- Part 10

2 Corinthians 10:6- And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

This verse is showing you step ten- obedience.

In all of the devotions that I do, I always end with, God wants you to do this so you should obey him, but I have never done a devotion about obedience.

There are many people we have to obey. Number one, God, parents, and anyone in authority of us. Right now I will start off with God.

God is very powerful and He can do anything he wants to us, that's why you should obey Him. He is very merciful though, but you should still obay. How many times has God called you to do something, and you have disobeyed and ignored Him? I am very sorry to say this, but even I have done that before. If we got punished for every time we disobey God, all of us wouldn't be feeling that good right now. God is merciful to us though, He doesn't give us all the punishment we deserve.

We should obey our parents too. Ehpesians 6:1 says-

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

It doesn't matter how old you are, as long as you have parents, you should obey them.

We should also obey all people who have authority over us. It doesn't matter how much you may not like them or what they're telling you to do, as long as they're telling you to do something that's not bad, you should obey them. Here are some people that we sould obey- Pastors, teachers, mayors, governers, and presidents- that's not even all the people you have to obey!

God wants us to obey Him by obeying. Pray, and ask God to help you to obey Him.

The Race- Part 9

Ephesians 4:31- Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

This is showing you step nine- don't be angry.

You're probably saying to yourself, "why did she have to pick anger? Why can't she pick something else to do in her devotions?" Well, I know how you feel. That's why I picked anger.

Anger is a hard thing to control. It's hard not to yell or get frustrated with people. When someone is being mean to you, it's hard not to get angry or get back at them.

I will show you some things to help you to not get angry as easily.

Why do people yell? Yes I know it's because the're angry, but yelling isn't going to make someone stop whatever it is the're doing that's making you angry. Sure it might stun them a little, but still, it's not going to make them stop. Even I yell. I try not to. Don't use the excuse that it's our nature though. Try to control the situation. Use a calm voice unstead of yelling. Ask whoever it is who is making you angry to stop.

Why do people get frustrated? Again, it is because of anger, but still, there is no reason to get frustrated with people. When people are being anoying, and you ask them over and over agian to stop, it is easy to get frustrated. But again, it is no excuse. It's easy to get frustrated and mad in a lot of little things in fact.

When you do the wrong things, does it make God angry? No! It doesn't. It just makes Him sad.

We all can make others mad too. You may be thinking, "what?! Me? I could never make anyone angry." Well, the truth is, you can. Even I make others angry too. I don't do it on purpose. It's just some things I do can make others angry.

I have been learning about David in my church services lately, and David is a great example of why we shouldn't be angry. King Saul was mad at David for no reason. He was so mad at him, he tried to kill David! All that time, David didn't get angry. David had the perfect reason to be angry though, but still he never got angry.

God doesn't want us to be angry. He wants us to have peace. We can't do this without God. Pray, and ask God to help you control your anger.

The Race- Part 8

Proverbs 12:22- Lying lips [are] abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly [are] his delight.

This is showing you step eight- being truthful.

The verse up top is saying that if you lie, it makes God sick, but if you tell the truth, it makes God really happy.

God does NOT want you to lie. God hates lying. It says in the verse up top that lying is an abomanation to God. God hates lying so much that it makes him sick. Now that's pretty bad. He wants us to tell the truth.

When I was little, I used to think that if you didn't say "I promise I'll do that", you didn't have to do whatever you said you were going to do. One day I was visiting the church I used to go to, and in sunday school, the teacher was talking about lying. She said that it doesn't matter if you say that you promise to do something or not, you have to stay true to your word. That totally changed my mind about lying.

God wouldn't tell you not to lie if Jesus lied when he was on earth, that's why he didn't lie. Jesus never did anything wrong when he was on earth.

We should obay God and be truthful. We don't want to make Him sick. We can't do this without God, so pray and ask God to help you start to be more truthful.

The Race- Part 7

Galatians 5:22- But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

This is showing you step seven- faith.

As you see, I have been doing the fruit of the spirit. I did love, joy, peace, and long suffering, but I wanted to skip over to faith.

Faith is a good thing to have. God wants us to have faith. He wouldn't put it in the Bible if He didn't want us to have faith.

We should have faith when we pray. One time in my devotions, I was learning about faith. I learned that when you pray about the things that you need and have faith, God will most likely answer your prayers. I was so excited to hear that! It seemed so cool to me that God would answer my prayers because I had faith in him.

     Matthew 17:20 says -

...If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

This verse is saying that if you have the faith of a tiny mustard seed, you can make a mountain move just by having faith! Now, this Bible verse is just giving you an example. Still, this is pretty amazing!

God also wants you to have faith in Him. God doesn't lie so you should have faith in whatever He says.

In the Bible, God told Noah that there was going to be a flood. Now at that time, there was no rain. God provided a mist upon the earth to keep everything alive. If God told me that there was going to be a flood when there hasn't been any rain, I would have thought He was crazy! But, Noah had faith. It took him about one hundred years to build the ark, but everyday Noah never gave up. He kept on building that ark.

Noah is a perfect example of why we should have faith.

We should have faith in God that he is able to take care of us.

The Race- Part 6

Galatians 5:22a- But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering...

This is showing you step six- longsuffering- which is patience.

It's very hard to be patient especially when you are in a hurry. The funny thing is, God tries to test your patience when you are in a hurry. We always ask God why he has to do it when we are in a hurry. Well, He does it because it is the perfect time to test your patience. God wants you to have patience because the Bible says so.

Patience is a hard thing to have. That's why not a lot of people have patience.

We don't just need to be patient when we are in a hurry, we need to be patient with people. It's especially hard to be patient with people who are slow, disrespectful, or just anoying. I have had to cross people with all three of those personalities. I am talking with experience here, and I know that it is hard to have patience with those kind of people.

Again, Jesus is another perfect example why we should have patience. People mocked him because he said that he was the Messiah, and he never tried to do something back at them. When Jesus was getting ready to die on the cross for us, people were questioning him and saying if he was really Jesus he could bring down angels to kill everyone and take him off the cross, but because of his obedience to God and his patience, he stayed quiet.

Again, we all need patience. Pray that God will give you patience because we all know that we can not have patience without God's help.

The Race- Part 5

Galatians 5:22a- And the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace...

This Bible verse is showing you step five- Peace.

Everyone wants peace. Peace is peace. Why people want peace is because it gives you comfort. When we don't have peace, everything seems to go wrong. We start to worry, have anxiety, have a bad attitude about everything, and we are always mean and grumpy. These are the signs of when you need peace.

I can admit that I do need peace too. I tend to worry, have anxiety, have a bad attitude, and act mean and grumpy sometimes. Aren't those the five things that I named that happen when you need peace?

Jesus is another great example of why we need peace.

When God told Jesus that he was going to die on the cross for our sins, did Jesus start worrying? No! Jesus accepted it and had peace over it.

There are so many things in this world today that are going on, we think that there is no hope left. We start to worry and think that God has forgotten us and we think that we can't have peace. That's wrong. God has not forgotten us and he never will.

We should have peace in knowing that God will never leave you no matter what's going on.

The Race- Part 4

Matthew 22:39- And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

This verse is showing you step four- loving others.

The Bible tells us that we should love everyone the same way we love ourselves. You should love even the people that you might not like that much. Matthew 5:44 says-

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Some people are just hard to love. But the Bible says you should love everyone. Not Just people you want to love, but people you want to love and even the people you don't want to love.

Loving others is how you can witness to people too. Loving others can change peoples lives.

We are not perfect but still, God loved us so much that he sent his son to die on the cross. Wait a minute! Let's pause here. Here is a perfect example why we should love others- God loves us and we're not perfect right? Then why do we not love others when they are just as deserving as we are?

Don't make excuses that you don't have to love others because they are mean to you or don't seem like they deserve to be loved. Love your friends, love your teachers, love your parents, love everyone.

God loves you so you should love others the same exact way the He loves you.
